Garden Update - July

The garden has been in full effect for nearly two months now, so I thought I would give an update on how it is progressing.  We've started to harvest some of our veggies.  Cucumbers have been growing in what seems like over night, and the green onions were ready for picking this weekend as well.

I can't really explain it, but there is something so satisfying in eating your home grown food.  It tastes better, is probably better for us, and it's just plain fun in the summer.  I'm really looking forward to the zucchini coming in.  There are a few working now that are just slightly too small to pick.  Also, our tomatos are finally starting to turn red.  Only a little bit longer before we can pick these guys!

What I'm most amazed with is how HUGE everything has gotten.  This was all planted in late May, and it is now Mid July and they have just grown like crazy.  The tomato plants are nearly as tall as me.  Well, I guess not everything has grown that big.  My dad is convinced that the green pepper plant we put in is plastic because it has not grown very much.  So, let's look at a comparison from May until now as to how the garden is really looking.

Amazing, right?  When I went back and pulled these pictures together I couldn't believe how big everything looked.  Well, except for that darn pepper.

Our flowers are also doing really well.  They have filled in nicely and make the yard look so nice.  Here's a comparison of how they look compared to May.

We are loving our yard and it is our own private oasis in the summer.  We love coming home from work, grabbing a beer, and sitting out on the deck downloading from our day. One thing was missing though, a patio set.  We have been holding off on buying a patio set due to saving up for the wedding, and just not finding what we really liked.  But we decided to put some of our wedding gifts towards this and finally bought a table and chairs.

Now we can properly entertain outside.  Whose up for some BBQ and a swim?
