Spring cleaning, warm weather, Easter events, oh my!

I am back to work after a 4 day weekend.  Yep, a whole 4 days off - well, off of my paying job.  :)

Thursday it was so nice outside.  I think we got to a high of 79 degrees, and I spent the day doing some spring cleaning.  All our windows are washed, oven is clean, and a whole bunch of other odds and ends were done.  Mostly I was excited to get all the musty winter air out of the house, have all the windows open all day, and get outside in the backyard with Fozzie.  That evening Teddy and I were able to get our wedding invitations addressed, stuffed, and mailed.  We've already heard from quite a few people that they had received them.  Yea!  Another thing crossed off the wedding to do list!

Friday both Teddy and I were off work.  So, we did some preparation for Easter Sunday.  We were hosting my mom's side of the family for Easter brunch, and it was the first time someone other than my mom or my aunt's hosted a major holiday.  Here they are below.

Aunt Linda, Mom, & Aunt Diane

All the holidays they have hosted have been fabulous, so I had some big shoes to fill!  Friday after our lists were put together we headed off to Sam's Club and Jewel to get all the neccessities for Easter.  I think all of Downers Grove had the same idea because the stores were packed.  I turned the corner to head to the baking isle at one point and thought they were giving away cake mixes.  There were literally 25 people in that isle.  It was insanity.  So, Teddy and I made our way through the stores as quickly as possible to get home to finish cleaning and enjoy the weather.

Saturday, Teddy and I did all the cooking preparation for Sunday brunch.  So we spent the morning chopping, grating, whipping, etc.  We had a lot of fun cooking together and spending the day together.

I also had to make some green bean casserole for Teddy's family Easter that was later that day.  His Uncle Tracy and Aunt Mary Ann hosted his whole family for Easter dinner on Saturday night.  Teddy and I had fun catching up with the family and eating some yummy Easter dinner.  There were a lot of fun stories shared and we thought it was a great party.  We of course forgot our camera, so we didn't get any pictures of the event.

Sunday Teddy and I woke up early to get cooking and all the final cleaning for the family for brunch.  We were expecting 29 people to come and we had to ensure that we had plenty of food and drinks for all.  Our menu consisted of:

Made by us:

Syrupy Bannana-Nut Overnight French Toast (I made a version with nuts and one without)
Smoked Gouda & Spinach Quiche (the recipe is for it to be crustless, but I put it in a crust)
Asparagus Quiche
Bacon, Cheddar & Egg casserole
Breakfast Sausage
Pepper and Brown Sugar Bacon
Biscuits

Made/brought by family:

Deviled eggs
Sausage wontons
7 layer salad
Fruit salad
Ice cream jello
Lemon poppyseed muffins
Crumb cake
Cucumber salad
Ham
Chocolate and Pistachio Tort for dessert
Cupcakes for dessert

Wow - I think we had enough food for everyone!  Check out the spread as people started eating.

We're pretty sure no one went away hungry.  :)  Everything was delicious, and everyone seemed to really enjoy the meal.  Teddy and I love brunch.

Since it was gorgeous weather people were able to hang out on the back deck for a while and visit.  All in all I thought it was a great party and a success for my first family holiday taking over from the three titans of holiday I talked about earlier (Aunt Linda, Aunt Diane and mom).  Teddy and I hope everyone had as much fun attending as we had hosting.  We were SO happy almost everyone could make it.

It was a good thing we decided to have everyone over early because later that night the weather took a turn and we had a seriously crazy thunder and lighting storm.

Another busy weekend done.  I know there are lots more to come as wedding festivities become more frequent.
